Student Learning Activities

Overview

All of the activities are designed to provide students with learning opportunities that are fun, informative, comprehensible, literate, and stimulate the development of thinking skills, and to provide a series of foundational activities in mathematics from elementary school to junior high school. These activities are described below.

Mathematics Activities 2014 - 2020

1. Math foundations in the classroom

We modified and adapted the existing Foundations modules to further integrate them into classroom teaching, so that students can have fun with mathematics in the classroom. In 2019, we started this activity.

  • The program will begin in 2019 and will be based on the foundational activities developed for grades 3-8 that are related to the basic learning content of mathematics.
  • Grades and Target: Grades 3-8.
  • Schedule: Application will be made from mid-February to mid-March, and the classroom entry will be held from April to the end of June. The course will be offered in mid-July to mid-August and will be offered in classrooms from September to the end of December.

2. Mathematics Foundations of Literacy Package

The Mathematics Foundations of Literacy Package focuses on the refinement of mathematics teaching from “sensory understanding to literacy”, with the goal of developing a more sophisticated and effective way to promote students’ literacy development. In 2021, we started this activity.

  • Content: Foundation activities for the development of literacy based on content related to the basic learning of mathematics in grades 3 to 8.
  • Grades and Target: Grades 3-8.
  • Schedule: Apply for the course from mid-February to mid-March, and conduct the literacy teaching practice from April to the end of June. In mid-July~mid-August, we will apply for the program and conduct the literacy teaching practice in September~end of December.

3. Good Fun Math Camp (held in each county and city in 2021)

The camp is designed to stimulate students’ interest in mathematics by offering fun activities during summer and winter vacations, after school and on weekends.

  • The content of the program is based on the basic content of mathematics for grades 3-8.
  • Grades and Target: Grades 3-8.
  • The course is conducted according to the schedule of the K-12 Education Administration.

4. Annual Teaching Seminar

We also regularly hold regional and annual teaching seminars, and hold annual activity teachers’ conferences at the end of the year, inviting mathematics teachers from all over Taiwan to share their experiences on the spot. In addition, interested junior high school and elementary school teachers are welcome to participate, so that teachers who run Good Fun Math camps can promote the professional growth of mathematics teaching through the process of seminar report sharing, curriculum preparation, and discussion.
