Prospective Science Camp - Quantum Computing

This activity starts from the Focus Seminar, which is the focus of this project, and aims to develop an academic community network, a mentorship model for projects in emerging areas of focus (this project focuses on “quantum computing”), and experimental development of an intensive course of study.

The Prospective Science Camp enrolls university students who are interested in cutting-edge research in June 2021. In addition to recruiting top-notch faculty, we have also decided to select and train course assistants for after-course tutoring after the intensive courses.

In order to compensate for the potential shortcomings of the formal curriculum and the relaxed course offerings, the curriculum has been designed to lead students to a solid foundation in a cutting-edge field rather than to recruit and attract students to the field in a generalist manner. The goal of this plan is to find students who are capable of keeping up with the intensive curriculum and who are interested in pursuing a career in the field. After training, it is believed that these students will become an important human resource in the future. The “Quantum Computing Intensive Course” was completed in July 2021, with 36 TAs and a total of 2012 participants.

(1) 3 students participated in the BMW Quantum Computing Challenge under the guidance of Associate Professor Qingrui Lai and Chan Chan Chan Yan of the Department of Engineering and Design, National Cheng Kung University.

(2) To organize a seminar and presentation with the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and to invite Sheng-Lin Hong (a research assistant in Prof. Hao-Chung Cheng’s lab in the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan University, who is also a consultant of this project) to give a lecture on “Variational Quantum Algorithm and Quantum Chemistry” on November 19, 2021. Chemistry”, with Associate Professor Qingrui Lai as the moderator.

(3) Through the program’s “USP Career Exploration” activity, Associate Professor Qingrui Lai invited Mr. Ming-Hsiu Hsieh, Director of the Honghai Quantum Institute, and Mr. Si-Cheng Lin, Business Manager of Taishin Life, to guide two students to try out quantum finance problems and practical work.
