Junior High School Elementary Mathematics Teacher Professional Community Growth Implementation Program - Just Thinking Learning - Easy Thinking + Thinking Easy

“Easy Thinking” + “Thinking Easy” is the growth program of junior high school’s professional community of elementary mathematics teachers. It has been 10 years from 2012 to 2022. The student-centered approach is the teaching philosophy of the program, and the professional growth process is based on students moving teachers, individual teachers moving their school communities, and school communities spreading to other school communities (starting in 2019, the program will be changed to Thinking Easy – Easy Thinking + Thinking Easy).

Program Goals

1. To increase the ability of front-line teachers to review the mathematical literacy curriculum, deepen the connotation of lesson preparation, lesson observation, and lesson discussion, and improve the core mathematical literacy of Junior High School elementary teachers. In addition, through the introduction of the concepts of literacy teaching and assessment, we will deepen the ability of front-line teachers to teach effectively, differentiate teaching, remedial teaching, multiple assessments, and cooperative learning in groups.
2. Schools in remoteareas and the ones lacking mathematics expertise are the focus of this program. If a school makes an application, professional instructors will be provided to conduct six hands-on workshops a school year according to their individual needs.
3. Through the hands-on workshops, we will produce effective teaching and evaluation cases. We also provide a school-based mathematics curriculum with local characteristics.
4. To strengthen the professional dialogue among teachers by deepening, strengthening, and cultivating professional communities in each school, and to achieve the goal of inquiry and practice in the field of mathematics.

Expected Results

1. Through design, sharing, and exchange, we will enhance the professional knowledge of Junior High School first-line teachers in the field of mathematics, promote exchanges among teachers in different schools, and improve the effectiveness of curriculum and teaching guidance.
2. The Easy Thinking Project can help students who are not ready for mathematics to build their interest in learning mathematics and promote the development of core concepts in mathematics.
3. To compile and publish “Easy Thinking Stories” to promote the exchange of results and sustainable management in the field of mathematics and to enhance teachers’ professional knowledge.
4. To establish an Easy Thinking base that uses “implementation, deepening, and promotion” to promote a model of professional growth that is both self-motivated and with external resources to enhance the performance of the field.
